With the hype surrounding 3-D printers like MakerBot, Disney researchers have released research and a new concept.  Scientists Karl D.D. Willis, Eric Brockmeyer, Scott E. Hudson, and Ivan Poupyrev are using 3-D printers and optics to create internal patterns that channel light from an LED source. Thus, touch sensitive objects can be designed with sensors and other components printed directly into the object itself. So instead of assembling individual parts to create working technology, technological capabilities can now be printed into objects in layers.
